pacharmo_peakParchamo, situated south of the Tashilaptsa Pass, has a north-by-northwest ridge, rising from the crevassed glacier that straddles the Tashi Lapcha. The face of this ridge forms a uniform slope broken by crevasses that rise from the rocky lower buttresses above the Drolambau Glaciers in the west.

Rolwaling Valley is the main access route to Parchamo, with the only other alternative from the Khumbu side via Namche Bazar and Thame.
Parchamo was first climbed in 1955.

lobuche_climbLobuche consists of two summits, East and West (6143 m), connected by a continuous ridge, but with a marked gap and a considerable distance between them. The East is regarded as a trekking peak, whereas Lobuche West is recognised as a full Expedition peak.

Lobuche, an attractive mountain that was first summited in 1984, has various existing routes, as well as offering the potential for new ones. The dark triangle of its rocky east face rises over the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier to a spectacular skyline, forming the south ridge.

The peak of Lobuche East is reached by descending a marked notch and climbing steep snowy slopes to the top. The mountain is more commonly climbed on the summit ridge only as far as a subsidiary snow summit, identified as a false peak, which is situated south-east of the true peak and before the notch.

hiunchuli_climbTogether with Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli forms a massive south-facing wall, while its eastern face overlooks the Modi Khola, guarding the entrance to the Annapurna Sanctuary.
Though not technically difficult to climb, the mountain is vulnerable to rock-falls – and finding the route can therefore be a problem.
Hiun Chuli has received little attention from mountaineers and is rarely climbed, despite the fact that it offers major new route potentials.

It is unclear who was the first to summit Naya Kanga.

yala_peakA peak that lends itself to easier climbing, Yala has the twin advantages of amazing views that can be enjoyed by those with no previous mountaineering experience.
Situated just to the north of Kathmandu in the beautiful Langtang Valley, Yala summit looks out over the Tibetan Himalayas, including Shisapangma, the only 8000 m peak situated entirely in Tibet.
From Kathmandu we drive to Dhunche or Syabrubesi, then trek up the valley for three days. We explore the Langshisa glacier to help us acclimatise, establishing a high camp at 4800 m, from which we make our summit bid. After an alpine start under stars, we are on the summit by late morning.

Note: You can climb this peak combined with the Annapurna circuit trek. This trek commences from Besi Sahar.

mera_peak_climbThis is the most popular trekking peak in Nepal and although it is also the highest, it is one of the easiest, too, being considered a “walk up” in good weather and if the snow conditions are not too soft.
Those who undertake this trek do need to be conversant with the use of an ice-axe and crampons, as well as being fit, but instruction in their use will be given in Kathmandu, and also at the base camp near Mera La, if required.

Summitting Mera is a highly rewarding experience, providing some wonderful views encompassing Kanchenjunga and Makalu to the east, with Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse to the north. Looking westward, the spires of Ama Dablam and Kang Taiga are clearly visible.
The climb itself necessitates establishing a high camp at 5800 m on the Mera Glacier, before attempting the summit on the next day. The ascent is via the north face glacier and is a steady push to the summit ridge, which leads, somewhat precariously, to the top.

pisangThis is something of an explorer’s peak, which offers climbers great challenges because of the hanging glacier that guards its western flank. Additionally the western end of the ridge is protected by huge rock slabs, which add to the difficulty level of the climb.
Pisang Peak is situated in the Marsyangdi Valley part of the Annapurna Region and was first summitted by a German expedition in 1955.
Although this is a non-technical peak, its steepness and the other complicating factors mean that an ice axe and crampons, as well as previous climbing experience, are necessary.

islandpeakImja Tse, giving the impression of an island set in a sea of ice, is one of Nepal’s most popular trekking peaks and has a consuming fascination for many of those who set their hearts on summiting a minor peak in the Khumbu Himal area.
Its summit is intriguing and attractive, with a highly glaciated west face rising from the Lhotse Glacier.

The southern ridge leads to the true summit, while its southwestern extension, part of the normal route of ascent, leads to the south summit – a more technical climb involving a scramble up a rocky gully to a glacier.
Above this point, a headwall of steep snow leads to the summit ridge, which continues, in an extremely exposed position, to the summit.
The climb poses a very enjoyable challenge and offers some of the most remarkable Himalayan views in the entire Khumbu region.
