Another trek for those preferring to take the less-travelled route: this itinerary takes in the Gokyo Valley, dominated at its head by the massive and almost overbearing form of Cho Oyu (8153m), before ascending to Gokyo Ri, one of Khumbu’s most spectacular viewing locations. From this point there are great perspectives of the vast Ngozumpa Glacier, Cho Oyu itself with its neighbour Gyachung Kang, Mt Everest rising above a fluted ridge, Lhotse and Makalu.

After appreciating this amazing vista we head out westwards to the Rengo-La pass, which we cross in order to trek to Thame village. This is where Everest’s famous pioneer Sherpa Tenzing Norgay grew up.

There is a gomba perched on a steep hillside above the village. Thame, as much as any settlement in Khumbu, is off the tourist route, so you may even find yourself the only foreigner in town!

Day 01 : Arrival Kathmandu – transported to hotel – tour briefing
Day 02 : Free time in Kathmandu
Day 03 : Flight Kathmandu to Lukla – trek Phakding (2610 m)
Day 04 : Phakding / Namche Bazaar (3446 m)
Day 05 : Namche Bazaar, rest for acclimatisation
Day 06 : Namche Bazaar / Dole (4200 m)
Day 07 : Dole / Machchhermo (4470 m)
Day 08 : Machchhermo / Gokyo (4790 m)
Day 09 : Excursion to Gokyo Ri and back to Gokyo Lake trek
Day 10 : Trek over Renjo-La and further down to the next side of pass
Day 11 : Trek to Thame village
Day 12 : Thame / Monjo
Day 13 : Monjo / Lukla
Day 14 : Flight Lukla to Kathmandu
Day 15: Free time in Kathmandu
Day 16 : Transported to airport -flight to your onward destination
